Liverpool kokoh di puncak klasemen Liga Inggris setelah mengalahkan Newcastle 4-2 dalam pertandingan pekan ke-20, Selasa (2/1/2024).
Empat gol Liverpool disumbang oleh Mohamed Salah pada menit 49\’ dan penalti 86\’, Curtis Jones 74\’ dan Cody Gakpo 78\’.
Sedangkan Newcastle yang berstatus sebagai tim tamu, mencetak dua gol melalui Alexander Isak menit 54\’ dan Sven Botman menit 81\’.
Dengan kemenangan ini, Liverpool kian kokoh di puncak klasemen dengan mengumpulkan 45 poin, unggul tiga poin dari Aston Villa dan lima poin dari Manchester City dan juga Arsenal.
Dalam laga melawan Newcastle ini, Liverpool tampil mendominasi permainan. Di babak pertama saja, ada 18 kali percobaan ke gawang Martin Dubravka.
Ini merupakan statistik tertinggi yang dicatatkan Liverpool sejak 2015 saat melawan Leicester City di mana kala itu merekan mencatatkan 20 percobaan.Angka harapan gol (xG) sebesar 7,27 melawan Newcastle ini. Dan ini adalah rekor tertinggi sejak musim 2010/11 dalam satu pertandingan di Liga Inggris yang dicatatkan Liverpool.
Menurut Squawka, saat pertandingan memasuki 78 menit berjalan, Liverpool sudah mencatatkann xG 5,98. Ini adalah rekor tertinggi dalam satu pertandingan Liga Inggris sejak musim 2016/2017.
Sebagai perbandingan, yang menunjukkan digdayanga tim asuhan Jurgen Klopp, XG Liverpool dalam kemenangan 9-0 melawan Bournemouth adalah 3,32.
Sedangkan XG Liverpool dalam kemenangan 7-0 melawan Manchester United adalah 2,7.
Hasil ini juga sekaligus menjadi awal yang baik bagi Liverpool di tahun baru 2024.
Pasalnya, Liverpool belum pernah memenangkan pertandingan liga pertama mereka dalam tiga tahun sebelumnya, kalah dua kali.
Sedangkan bagi Newcastle, kekalahan ini memperpanjang rekor buruknya saat berhadapan dengan Liverpool di Anfield.
The Magpies belum belum pernah memenangkan pertandingan Premier League di Anfield sejak 1994, kalah 22 kali dari 27 kunjungan.
