Chelsea mendapatkan hasil kurang memuaskan saat tampil di semifinal Carabao Cup leg pertama melawan Middlesbrough, Rabu (10/1/2024) di Riverside Stadium.
The Blues, julukan Chelsea, bertekuk lutut dihadapan Middlesbrough dengan skor 1-0.
Hasil minor ini sekiranya tak menjadikan hari-hari Chelsea buyar sepenuhnya.
Mereka masih punya kesempatan membalas kekalahan tersebut pada leg kedua nanti.
Namun Chelsea juga harus bisa membongkar resep jitu Middlesbrough yang bisa mengalahkan mereka di leg pertama Carabao Cup ini.
Salah satu hal sekiranya menarik untuk diperhatikan adalah adanya jejak-jejak Manchester United dalam kekalahan Chelsea.
Hal itu datang dari juru taktik Middlesbrough, Michael Carrick.
Sebagaimana diketahui, Michael Carrick adalah mantan pemain Manchester United.
Ia menghabiskan masa jayanya sebagai seorang pesepak bola dengan membela panji Setan Merah.
Carrick tercatat bermain selama 12 musim bagi Manchester United dari 2006 hingga 2018.
Selama masa mengabdi di Old Trafford, ia hanya merasakan sentuhan tangan dingin pelatih.
Tentu saja Carrick menjadi pemain yang beruntung merasakan lamanya dipoles oleh Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ferguson pun rela berbisnis dengan Tottenham yang dikenal alot melepas pemain.
Keputusan Ferguson itu ternyata tak salah.
