Ranking FIFA Timnas Indonesia naik signifikan jika berhasil mengalahkan Australia pada babak 16 besar Piala Asia 2023.
Perebutan tiket 8 besar Piala Asia 2023 antara Australia vs Timnas Indonesia dijadwalkan berlangsung, Minggu (28/1/2024) pukul 18.30 WIB di Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
Timnas Indonesia lolos ke babak 16 besar lewat jalan yang berliku.

Sementara, Australia tidak menemui kendala berarti pada fase grup. Tim racikan pelatih Graham Arnold tersebut meraih tujuh poin dan menjadi juara Grup B. Australia hanya kebobolan sekali saja.

Berdasarkan perhitungan real time ranking FIFA saat ini, Australia menempati peringkat 23 dunia.
Adapun Timnas Indonesia ada jauh di bawah. Skuad Garuda, berdasarkan pada data edisi Desember 2023, berada di posisi ke-146.
Namun setelah tiga laga fase grup Piala Asia 2023, Timnas Indonesia kini berada di posisi ke-142. Pasukan Shin Tae-yong telah mengumpulkan 1.072,66 poin.
Mayoritas personel Timnas Australia bermain di luar Australia.
Sejatinya banyak pemain Timnas Indonesia yang bermain di luar Indonesia, namun levelnya berbeda dengan Australia.
Pemain-pemain Australia yang berkiprah di luar negeri biasanya mentas sebagai pemain andalan sang klub. Ambil contoh gelandang mereka, Jackson Irvine, yang menjadi pemain andalan klub Liga 2 Jerman, St. Pauli.
Selain itu ada juga Matthew Ryan yang menjadi kiper utama klub raksasa Liga Belanda, AZ Alkmaar.
Sementara itu, pemain-pemain abroad Timnas Indonesia hanya menjadi pemain pelapis di klub masing-masing seperti Elkan Baggott (Ipswich Town), Marselino Ferdinan (KMSK Deinze) dan Pratama Arhan (Tokyo Verdy, sebelum pindah ke Suwon FC).
